These paddles are very strong, but not cumbersome. You will not have to worry about your arm falling off halfway during the race! Average weight is about 24-25 ounces. A solid Tulip shaft with a laminated Tulip blade, protected by Ash edging, makes this paddle very durable, but not overly stiff and heavy.  The blade is laminated from Tulip, Maple and Walnut, so you have contrasting beauty along with the strength and durability of harder woods.  You can also beef up the edges by having the Ash banding wrap. This feature actually lightens the blade up, since it allows me to utilize a lighter blade lay-up. The ash banding is very durable and aesthetically pleasant.  5 degrees, 9.5" $l40 (add $20 for ash banding) --blade is 9.5" on this paddle!!   What is the advantage of the ash banding? It provides edge protection, and allows me to work more wood out of the blade, as it solidifies the blade with its double laminate banding.  So you have a lighter, more durable blade -- great for those longer races!!
