The Gillespie Youth paddle is a solid performer and does not have the clubby feel of most youth paddles. It's not overbuilt, but rather built to suit the paddlers it serves -- as are all Gillespie paddles. The solid Tulip shaft is very strong and durable, yet not cumbersome. The handsomely laminated blade consists of Tulip and Cherry, with some walnut accents. It's tough and surprisingly light. (Also, for those who have younger paddlers, you can order these in the shorty size -- 42" -- and if you want a narrower blade, just email me; I'd say an 8"er would work well for that short of a paddle.)
