The PowerMaster is the same paddle as the PaddleMaster except the lower power-face of the blade has more of a spoon, a longer, slightly deeper lip if you will. . The advantages of this blade are incredibly easy entry and less slippage. As with any blade that has an enhanced lip, if you wait to long to release the blade, it will carry water.   If you are wondering why you might want this blade rather than the Paddlemaster, the reason would be a lighter, more flexible blade.  The Ash edge wrap allows me to use lighter woods in the blade body.     Please note that the PowerMaster has the lower profile blade, as does the PaddleMaster.  I personally like this blade style a lot, more so than the Surge; it is smoother, yet still great for higher cadences and decisive blade positioning.  (Please note that the PowerMaster comes standard with the Ash edge wrap)   You can also specify the Phenolic tip for extreme durability and ultra fine entry -- this option does smooth out the back of the paddle, so the lip is not so apparent; $10.

A word on the wood selection from Brad for making the paddle.

Please note that the Special and PowerMaster share the same basic lay-up -- the woods used are very similar.  I don't always use the same woods either......the reason is that sometimes some woods are just simply better than others.  Woods are by nature different, which is what makes them 'special'.........I use what I think is best at the time of lay-up, so the actual woods depicted in the pictures (in the case of the picture in the lower right portion of this page, the lay-up is a particularly inviting mixture of eastern white pine and walnut sometimes it might be a creamy bass/walnut, or butternut/walnut).
