This paddle is extremely light weight, with a very light graphite weave -- a lighter, tighter weave than you will find on other 'hybrid' style paddles, and one that requires considerably less epoxy to wet out. To make the blade 'tougher', a very light layer of fiberglass cloth is laid over the carbon fibre. This increases the durability of the graphite, and eliminates any tendency to fracture. Some of these paddles have come out at 16 ounces -- the shorter ones. Average weight is around 17-19 ounces. The shaft is laminated wood -- tulip and cedar, with a little walnut. It’s a great combo. The blade core is a cedar/balsa laminate with Walnut trim around the profile. Hey, break away from the crowd -- get something that is fully functional and uniquely individual!

Special info on carbon fibre blades: Not all carbon fibre blades are equal. And carbon fibre, contrary to some claims, is not the most durable material! Surprise! Carbon fibre, by itself, is more brittle and not as 'tough' as fiberglass. It is, however, considerably more stiff when wetted out with epoxy -- about the only resin you can realistically use with this material. What I do is this: I use the lightest (and most expensive, unfortunately) weave available (2.7 ounce) along with a cover layer of 2 ounce fiberglass. Together, they bond into an incredibly durable covering, which is still very light, and won't chip!
