A rather radical blade shape as you can see. This particular blade is kind of a final evolution design from the flat-water marathon racing elite. The lack of shoulders and the sudden flare of the blade as it reaches its maximum width quickly is a design that really fits the marathon racing canoes. These canoes have a sharp 'chine' on them that would chip away at wider shoulders; the lack of shoulders allows the blade to pass under the chine. It’s also an efficient paddle. The Surge style blade is one of a number of blade designs that should appeal to Outrigger paddlers, especially is they paddle OC1 -- the blades allow for a higher cadence, less resistance, and less fatigue. Please note that you can get the Surge style blade in any other lay-up -- just ask.
